Grammy looses it

I was the lucky winner of this "Capture Life" charm from Rusted Chain.  The  give-a-way was on Matthew Mead's website that features his upcoming Holiday issue.  I am so excited to receive this magazine.  It is only available from his web site.  Thanks to Matthew and The Rusted Chain.
Even though my pictures come from an inexpensive camera and I am not a photographer,  I love taking pictures.  I love to scrapbbok my pictures as well.  It is almost like reliving the moment.  I go to alot of crops with my daughter in law.  We will sit there and oh and ah over the memories.  One that comes to mind is at the airport.  We had a connecting flight coming home from Disney.
BUT, all of us had seats except for our granddaughter.  Somehow after our first flight someone didn't see that she had a ticket on the connecting flight.  Well, Grampy was furious and was at the ticket counter.  The rest of us stayed clear.  K.
Bug, then 5, had some milk in a carton with a straw.  She started blowing bubbles and didn't stop.  The milk was going all over her face and she kept blowing.  I started to laugh til I cried.  Thinking of it makes me want to LOL.  My DIL took a picture of me.  Looking back on it was so reaL.  Grampy getting mad and Grammy loosing it.  Thanks goodness we can "Capture Life" for later memories.

Candles (Please read)

I Love candles, how about you?  I light one almost every day.  I like the scents, esp. vanilla and to see the warm glow.  What is your favortie scent.  I am thinking of switching to soy since they seem to be more "green".
I haven't always had the best of luck with candles, and this is why I ask you to READ this post.
Once while watching Doodle and Baby Bella, we celebrated
Bella's 1st birthday with cupcakes.  Bella was too young for a candle but I thought Doodle wasn't.  I lit one candle in the donut for Doodle.  I stepped back and snapped a picture.  When looking back at that picture there was one strand of hair out of whack.  (Laken is the one with the long hair in the photo above)
As I snapped the photo that strand of hair got in the flame of the candle and Doodle's hair caught fire.  I clapped that hair and out went the flame.  I then wet her hair and washed that area.
Not even a singe.  Doodle was scared, as I was, but no physical damage done.  Psychological for sure.  Doodle will not allow candles at her birthdays now and Nanny (what she calls me) is paranoid about candles and birthday parties.  I tried all day to tell Doodle's parents.  I kept chickening out.  When they both got home from work I knew I had to.  Then Doodle's Dad asked if her Mom had told me that she nearly cut of the dogs ear while trying to get a burr out.  So I then proceeded with the news.  I think I said, "Well then that makes this easier to tell you."  They laughed about it since all was well.  Every birthday party Doodle's Dad tells everyone what Nanny did.  You wouldn't believe the looks I get.

Now if that wasn't bad enough READ ON PLEASE.
This Christmas it will be two years since this accident.  I had a candle burning all day.  It was a homemade candle someone gave me.  Goose and K. Bug had just left with their Daddy from being here all day.  I still had a baby here that I was taking care of.  She wasn't in my arms when I went to blow out that candle.  There was alot of melted wax in the jar.  When I blew out that candle the flame made that wax just explode.  The wax went everywhere.......including my EYES.  It was terrible.  I called my son back.  I held that baby and the tears back until she was picked up.  We went to my eye doctor and then to a surgeon.  My eyes did heal after a week of horrible pain.  I had small burns all over my face.  My eyes were swollen and I was a mess.  When I looked where I had the candle there was wax everyone.  My clothes were covered as well.  The reason for this long post is that you will TAKE CARE with candles.  Snuff them.  Do not use around children.  These incidents are one of my proudest moments.

HELP

Not the kind that prayers are needed, so this is not a 911 call.  I can't download pictures.  I have been working on this for hours.
A new format comes up, I have tried all three (4) places to retrieve pictures and nothing works.  When I do get the pictures to come up the little spinning thing never stops.  Is this just me or is there problem.  Help, I am getting so" flusterated" as my Goose would say.

Meet Clarise

This is our cat, Clarise.  She has beautiful green eyes.  This picture doesn't show it.  She isn't a beautiful cat but she is sweet.  She was a wild cat when she was found after her mother died.
A friend (vet) brought her to us since we have been know to tame the wildest of creatures.  I really wanted to send her back but she hid for three days.  When she finally surfaced we decided to give her some much needed love.  She mostly stays in our bedroom all the time.  She doesn't let anyone other than my Hubby and I see her.  She only likes Meow Mix.
Not much trouble this furry one.  We call her KiKi.
The temps have cooled considerably, thank goodness, 90's were not welcome.  Trees are just beginning to turn.  I passed on the Country Living Fair.  I wanted to go but it just didn't work out.  Our granddaughters are spending the night again.
So far these lovely ladies have joined the Christmas box/jar swap.  If you do not see your name let me know.  Still lots of time to sign up.

Scary.......Part two

I took this picture when I was visiting in Colorado in my daughter's back yard.  Can you believe how big this baby is?  Can you believe that it is plastic.  Sorry, I couldn't resist.  Once my daughter was on a walk and sent me a picture of a Wolfe spider that was, no kidding, this size.  They also have black widows, yikes.  Has anyone held Rosie at the Butterfly Pavillion near Denver.  I have watched my litte Snow White hold her , but at a distant.
Okay enough of the scary stuff.  It isn't even Halloween yet.

Record high temps here in Ohio today.....in the 90's.  So looking forward to a cooler week-end.  In less than one week we were under tornado warning at school.  Last night we were once again in the hall waiting out the sirens.  The kids did so much better this time.

Don't forget to sign up for the Christmas Box/Jar Swap.

No more scray pictures..........those bats were pretty bad, weren't they?

Don't be scared

I see Halloween decorations going up.  I will wait til October gets here, how about you?
Have you guessed what these are?  They are BATS.  Very big BATS.  They are from
Asia and can be seen at the Columbus (Ohio) zoo.  My oldest granddaughter loves these bats. Spooky
aren't they.  Check out the ones that are all wrapped up.  They amaze me.  They are a little
stinky.....at least in 90 degree weather.
CHRISTMAS SWAP.......I hope I didn't scare you off in my last post.  on This Art Makes Me Happy by Vicki, check out what she did with her jars.  I love it.  So jars can be fun.  I love putting pretty buttons in mine.  Come on, you know you want to sign up.
Hope you are having a fun week.   (((((HUGS))))

Some fall decorating and CHRISTMAS BOX/JAR SWAP

More decorating to follow, including my ME banner swap.  I love decorating with my bears.

Now, finally about the CHRISTMAS BOX, OR JAR SWAP.

I decided that some might not join if they have to alter a box, so their are two options.  I have not done a jar swap, but I know I would sure love a mason ,(esp.) blue, full of Christmas goodies.  I learned from the host of my last swap, so really good ideas when swapping.  So here are the rules.
Sign up:
1.   Send me your address by email at grammypetals@yahoo.com .  If that fails to go through just message me on this blog.
2.   Please leave me a message here that you are interested.
3.   When you email me please state if you are using a BOX, or a JAR.
4.    Aso tell me what you would prefer to receive.
Now that may be complicated and I will try to work that out on my end.  I know I will do a cigar box most likely, but would love a jar.  You can also say that you don't care what you receive.  I will try to match people.  I like that because you get to know the other person.
5.    It is up to you what you put in the jars.
Be creative.  Please don't fill with items from the dollar store.  I know you wouldn't do that, would you.  Christmas or holidays items, please.  You can make things to put inside.
Actually that would be such a nice touch.  You don't have to go overboard.  You can put supplies inside.  My head is spinning with ideas.
6.   In your email to me please send some ideas.  Such as:
 a.  What colors you like at Christmas.
 b.  Do you like religious items
 c.  What is your style:  examples such as cottage, country, victorian, eclectric, modern, Me, etc.
 d.  You can begin to sign up now.  I will keep the swap open til October 15 but I will begin to assign as people sign up.
 e.  I think we should mail before Thanksgiving.  It gets too crazy after that.
 f.   If you don't celebrate Christmas we can do snow, or winter or something else.

I think that is enough rules for right now.  If you think of something I have forgotten please let me know.  This is the first time I have organized a blog swap, so bear with me.  I think this will be great fun, don't you.

My week starting with our anniversary

We had talked about going to
Niagra Falls.  Just talked, no plans were made.  We decided that we could do that some other time.  Our day was quiet, kind of, as the granddaughters had spent the night before with us.
After they left we went to eat at a Japanese Steak house and went to a movie.
A not so good movie, with Drew Barrymore in it.
After 40 years, having a quiet anniversary is just fine.  These chocolates were from my best friend.  They were yummy.  I found my stack of wedding pictures accidently a couple of days before our anniversary.  I had rescued them from a not archival safe album.  They will be the next to be scrapbooked the right way. Some pretty flowers from my Hubby.
Okay the rest of the week......................
Monday came too quick.  I had an all day long review class on Saturday so Sunday was my only day off.  So Monday and Tuesday were a bit painful.  I took naps every day except Friday.  That really helps.  Wednesday my eye doctor appointment.  I was so worried that I wouldn't get out in time to make it to work/school, that I totally thought the time was an hour earlier than what it was.  I really didn't think the appointment was but the time itself.  My husband called and when I told him where I was, he said but your appoint isn't til 2.  I said it was 2 and he told me that it wasn't.  Geez, that was a weird feeling.   I still didn't get the whole appointment in.  I have to go back to get my eyes dilated next week.  My vision has changed esp. in one eye.  The reason my be cateracts.  They aren't bad but they are there.  I also have a cyst as well.  Passed on having it lanced.  So new glasses sometime soon.  Then Thursday........wake up call from my nap,
Goose was at her new school and had an accident.  The kinds that involves wet clothes.  So Grammy went to their house couldn't get in, so on to the school where her daddy works to get the key.  Dry clothes and off to her new school.
Another adjustment with tears this week.  I helped her change into dry clothes.  She said, "Oh, this feels better."  She said, "I just couldn't make it Grammy."  I told her it was okay, I had accidents, too.
A funny look from Goose.
No tears when I left as she said she could see me at my school.  She saw me there now a couple of times.  I think she needed to see that I was doing something, since we were together for so many years.  Okay, then came the exciting part.  The last one and a half hour at school were spent in the hall under TORNADO warmings and sirens.  Some kids were really scared.  We worked through that and all the rain and all was okay.
All around us, not too close, there was a couple tornados and damage.  It was definetly good practice but a little exhausting.  We did see a brief double rainbos.  I took a picture in the rain on my cell phone.
Friday, I went to work then beat it to the Backwoods Fest.  Close by on a farm tucked into the woods, there is this one week-end where it is transformed into tents, booths, kettle cooking fun.  I went by myself so I could quickly scan the arts and crafts.
Nothing too exciting, or nothing I needed.  Since we have de-cluttered and really tightened our finacial belts, I really think when I spend.  I got a couple things for an upcoming swap.  (One which my dog liked and tried to chew)  One booth took my eye.  Two women made these adorable dolls.  Some were more Raggedy
Ann looking than the one I splurged on.  They were a little expensive, I thought, but people were grabbing them like crazy.  I love rag dolls.  I chose the pink outfit but I think it was her face.  Isn't she the cutest?
Next week-end is the COUNTRY LIVING FAIR in Columbus, Ohio.
Are any of you going?  I would love to meet you, if you are.  Have a great week-end.

Getting started.  I painted the box first.

Next step is putting the ME paper on the top with Mod Podge.  I used this stuff many moons ago and it is still being used.
Then I cut out paper dolls from old Home Companion magazines.  I used Mod Podge to apply these.  I used a wet paper towel to press out the access, then after they dried I applied a couple coats all over.   The LIVE and Cherries were from ME.
All this rick rack came from a swap I was in.  I had to go get some glue to put this on....so it isn't finished.  When I bought these boxes at a garage sale, there were two for $1.  So, I made the little ones as well.  The little paper doll, Mickayla, looks like my Snow White.  Both dolls are from Christmas magazines.  I may use the larger one for my Christmas Box exchange.  I will post about that this week.  Feel free to go ahead and let me know if you are interested.
My altered boxes are usually cigar boxes but these were fun to do.

Piper's First Birthday

Balloon dogs in the chandy.  Muffin cups with Scooby Do Bones treats.  The girls thought they were for the dogs and the dogs thought they were for them as well.  ME decorations, hah.  On Clearance, love the colors.

I bought this Woof set with the cupcake papers and doggies at a cute store in our town.  They also had cats, ballerinas and princesses.
(A new bone and a a new toy.)(Father and son)(Piper's special iced bone)
(A
 little bone for Izzy, too)
(Mama and her babies.  I am so sorry Izzy that I cut your bangs and made you look funny)
Let me explain, hah, about these cupcakes. These are chocolate gluten free cupcakes.  Real Simple magazine had a tip for frosting cupcakes by placing a marshmellow on top of the cupcake when it was almost finished baking.  They were okay but not excellent.  I think icing would be better and also not as sticky.  This was a Betty Crocker gluten free cake mix.  Let me tell you.......soooo good.  No gritty taste.
Happy
Birthday Piper.  We love you bunches.

40 years today, Farmers Market, Fall Kitchen Swap

Okay, not sure why the swap picture jumped up to the front.  These my lovelies from Denise from Cindy's Fall Kitchie Swap.  There is a kitchen towel with a crocheted top.....perfect colors for my kitchen, an large acorn cookie cutter and recipe, a brush with rubber bristles, an oven mit with a pumpkin on it, some mint chocolates, yummy, and a very cute card.  The little black cat slippers are to sneak into the kitchen with.
Aren't these just the cutest things.  Thanks Denise, I love everything.

My hubby and youngest granddaughter this summer.  Sorry it is sideways.  40 years ago we were married.  It was a nice ceremony with about 200 people.  In that day and time, you had cake, punch, mints and you left shortly after for your honeymoon.  Actually you were rushed to take off.  Times have changed so much when it comes to wedding.  I like the unique weddings today.
Not sure that we need all the formal stuff when it comes to receptions but I am a plain Jane that would prefer something more casual.  We are definetly blessed.  Parents of four, three that are married with wonderful spouses.  Our 6 grandchildren are the lights of our lives.  Our two local granddaughters just left a few minutes ago from another sleepover.  We have been through the sickness and health of our vows.  We have had our ups and downs but our love for each other has always been strong.  I feel so fortunate about that.  We were 19 and 20 when we married.  To get our marriage license both sets of parents had to go with us and sign.  Imagine that.  I am thank ful for every day I have with my husband.

This is
Amy from our Farmers Market.  I had her oldest in the Toddler Room when I taught at Montessori.  He plays football in high school now.  She sells mixes and rubs and sauces.  See the aprons.  She collects vintage aprons.  She has them hanging all around her tent when she sells.  They blow with the breezes.  I though you apron lovers would love to see this.

Next to come.......Piper's
Birthday Party and the Christmas box exchange.  Happy Sunday.

9-11

This is what 9-11 looked like on that awful day where I live.  I remember how peaceful the day was here.  The weather was beautiful.  It was such a sad day.  I found out from a mom dropping off her child to my in home pre-school.  My youngest son was home from school and video taped the scene so I could see it.   I remember my daughter calling me from Colorado.  I asked her to call her brother that was stationed in Hawaii at the time.  They were starting to get the news there.....very early in the morning.   I know one of my first thoughts were what this meant for our son, when our country would soon be at war.  He did end up serving two tours of duty in the Middle East.  It was such a scary time for a parent.  Our son is no longer in the service but still protecting our country.  God Bless all those who serve our country and protect us.

I have several other things to post about but they don't seem appropriate today.  Maybe tomorrow.

Farmers Market and Questions Answered

I went to our town's Farmers Market on Saturday.  I went to get flowers for my DIL, her mother and her grandmother.  My DIL's grandfather recently passed away.  I also wanted to get some flowers for a friend that is undergoing treatment for ovarian cancer.  So I got five bunches.....one for me.  My arms were full.
As I walked to my car people sang to me.  Yep they did.  Going to the chapel and Here comes the
Bride.  Our 40th wedding anniversary is Sunday......so they weren't too far off.  We were 19 and 20.  It was a good feeling to deliver these flowers but I wished they were for happier times.

Cindy from Rick Rack and Gingham (Love that girl) tagged me in some questions.  I am supposed to answer and then tag 8 more people.  I will try to do the tagging later.  I know you are supposed to do it now.  So here goes.  I have abreviated the questions.

1.  You are forced to leave your home in a disaster.  Your family, pets, animals, and important papers are safe.  What ten items would you take.  ALOT DEPENDS ON THE TIME YOU HAVE TO LEAVE.  ALL THE THINGS THAT MATTER TO ME ARE SAFE .  I GUESS I WOULD GRAB A COUPLE PIECES OF JEWELRY AND SOME FRAMED PICTURES.  EVERYTHING ELSE COULD BE REPLACED.  I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE MY ANTIQUE WAGON AND MY DAD'S ROCKING CHAIR HE HAD AS A BABY, BUT EVEN THAT SEEMS SILLY.  OH MEDS, OF COURSE.  CROCS, UNDERWEAR AND A JACKET AND A COZY BLANKET OF COURSE.

2.  You are in the store shopping for groceries and in a big hurry.  You have to fix dinner for a large group what do you grab.  GEEZ LOUISE, I WOULD BE HITTING KFC OR SOMETHING.  INGREDIENTS FOR A BIG POT OF CHILI......SOME BROWNIES.  SOME GLUTEN FREE HOT DOGS TO PUT ON THE GRILL.

3.  A memory of a Car Trip  from my childhood, and what did the car look like.    MY DAD GOT A CONVERTIBLE IN DECEMBER ONE YEAR.  WE RODE AROUND WITH THE TOP DOWN ON A WARM DECEMBER DAY.  IT WAS YELLOW.

4.  You won alot of money, so much that you needed an accountant, what would you do with the money and who would you help.  I LIVE WITH AN ACCOUNTANT.  I AM SURE HE WOULD HAVE IDEAS FOR THIS MONEY.  I WOULD PAY ALL OUT BILLS, SET ASIDE MONEY FOR RETIREMENT (SAID ACCOUNTANT WORKED FOR ENRON SO OUR RETIREMENT WENT DOWN THE TUBE} PUT ASIDE MONEY FOR THE GRANDKIDS FOR COLLEGE.  I WOULD LOVE TO DONATE TO SMILE TRAIN, WHERE THEY FIX CHILDRENS CLEFT AND FACIAL DEFORMATIVES.  I WOULD ALSO GIVE MONEY TO MY DOCTOR THAT PRACTICES IN HAITI NOW.  I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO  MAKE SURE BABIES HAVE FORMULA TO DRINK IN THIS COUNTRY AND OTHERS.  OKAY, I THINK I RAN OUT OF MONEY.

5.  If you could plant a fall garden in a place where the weather would permit it what would you plant.  LET ME THINK, WHAT WOULD MY DEER LIKE TO EAT IN THE FALL......MUMS AND PUMPKINS

6.  What religious song means alot to me and what memory does it bring.  I CAN ONLY IMAGINE BY MERCYME.  IT REMINDS ME OF MY DAD AND MY FRIEND THAT DIED.  IT MAKES ME FEEL GOOD ABOUT WHERE THEY HAVE GONE.

7.  What blogging means to you.  WHEN I FIRST STARTED BLOGGING, I GUESS I JUST WANTED TO JOURNAL MY FEELINGS.  I LIKED FOLLOWING BLOGS THAT LIKED DECORATING AND CRAFTS THAT I LIKED.  BUT THEN I FOUND FRIENDS.  REAL FRIENDS THAT CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER AND PRAY FOR EACH OTHER.  I LIKE SHARING MY LIFE AND LISTENING ABOUT OTHERS.  IT IS HARD TO EXPLAIN BUT IT HAS REALLY MADE MY LIFE DIFFERENT IN A SHORT TIME.  I LOVE IT, WHAT ELSE CAN I SAY.

8.  Favorites:
PIE - PEACH
FLOWER - SUNFLOWER
SEASON - FALL
SMELL - VANILLA
ONE MORE BUT I CAN'T READ MY OWN WRITING.

OKAY, CINDY, YOU SHOULD BE AN ATTORNEY.  TALK ABOUT DETAIL QUESTIONS........(((((hugs)))))

INFORMATION COMING SOON FOR THE CHRISTMAS BOX SWAP.

OKAY, TIME FOR ME TO HIT THE SACK.  THESE EARLY HOURS ARE HARD TO GET USED TO.  STILL LOVE MY JOB.

My ME Giveaway, Swap til I drop

This is my ME give-a-way for reaching 75 followers.  Laurie Anna's Vintage Home was the winner.  I don't know if she knows yet as I think she is on a holiday break.  I can give her something else if she doesn't want ME.

This was a "Snail Mail Swap".  My partner was Karen.  Sweet Karen from California.  She is a teacher and has a special needs son.........so we have some common grounds.  We were told (Kim at Kimberly's corner) to send something by mail for 6 weeks.  That time went so fast.  We were to send a letter introducing ourselves, a special recipe, a funy card, a little gift, a post card from where we live, and the last week anything we wanted to do.  This was so much fun.  Thanks Karen for all your goodies.  I hope we will stay in touch.   ((((HUGS))))
This was a "Cigar Box Shop".  Right up my alley as I alter cigar boxes.  Thought about selling them on Etsy but I end up giving them for gifts.  So much fun to fill with things.    My partner was Olenka.  Isn't that the cutest name.  She is a young mama to some wee littles and lives in Florda.  Look at all the goodies she had stuffed in her box.  The box is at the top.  Pretty green , brown inked around the edges with a nice little flower on the top.  I got this package on the way to work and couldn't wait to open it until I got home.  I had so much fun showing it to my co-workers.  Explaining those bingo cards to a 19 year old boy was fun.  I didn't have any of these so that was great.  Funny about the ME products she sent.  I think she shops where I do.  Speaking of shopping, she is a coupon queen.  I am going to take some lessons from her.  She is a scrapbooker like me.  SO many cool things that I can really use.  Thanks Olenka.  ((((HUGS))))

I am in a couple more swaps that I am so excited about receiving.
A fall Kitchie Swap (I forgot to take a picture of what I sent) .  My partner was Denise.
Also a ME Fall
Banner.  CIndy of RIck Rack and Gingham sponsered these swaps.

Oh, and I signed up for a another cigar box swap.  SO, see I wasn't kidding about swapping til I drop.

************************************************************************************************ So..................I have decided to have a Christmas Box Swap.  Of course, I will be using a cigar box.  It can be any box decorated for the holidays, those in December, and filled with goodies.
If you are interested please let me know.  This will be fun.  I will come up with the details this month but boxes won't have to be mailed til
November.

Thanks my blogging friends.  This is such great fun.

HEY, SWEET
AS JUNE
since you were 75th, I will send you a little something as well.

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner

Laurie Anne's Vintage Home is the winner of my give-a-way.  The give-a-way was chosen from my followers when I reached 75.  Well,  my followers seemed to get stuck on 74 and I was tired of waiting.  So, to be fair, I entered #75 as a follower.  If that number was chosen I was just going to wait until that person signed up to follow.
How I choose the Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner.  (I borrowed that from my friend Bev).  I copied all names and numbered them so I wouldn' t leave anyone out.  Then, since Piper eats paper towels all day long, my intention was to have him pick the winner.  He didn't quite get what I wanted him to do.  So I picked them all up and put them in a bag and had Pops draw the winner.
So Laurie is the winner of my ME give-a-way.  If she doesn't like ME, (As in Mary Englebreit) I will give her another option.  I will post what I am sending her.
Thanks everyone for listening to what I have to say.  (((((HUGS)))) to all of you.
P.S.
I am having another give-a-way next month for my big (as in lots of numbers) birthday.

Check this out

Okay, would I steer you wrong......never.  This is the most fun paper company ever.
Actually the Pinney Kelly Paper is a store where you can buy the products.  But if you click on the button on my sidebar it will take you to all of their products.  If you live in the Columbus, Ohio area (actually Upper Arlington) you can go there and shop til you drop.
Here is the history.  My daughter's best friend from high school and her college friend started this company in the basement of one of their homes.  Now they have a huge warehouse and are super busy printing, packing and mailing their  sweet goodies all over the country.  Check out their products.........trust me, you will have a hard time picking your favorites.
I worked for Katie and Sarah last year during their rush season.  So much fun.  I could use a little practice on those bows.  (Inside joke, lol)
Not get this.......I know how you ladies love to do garage sales......yes, they have one.....a huge one.  Oh my goodness.  I can't wait.  It is in mid September.  I wil post more about it later.......and guess what,  my next give-a-way will be from HERE folks.
Speaking of give-a-ways.........I need ONE  more follower and I can choose a winner of my ME Give-A-Way.
I am having a good day....headaches are doing okay.........so looking forward to fall and cooler temps.  (((((HUGS))))
