Visiting with the moms

At this time of year we are all making note of what we are thankful for.  We lost our fathers  within 3 months of each other 7 years ago.  Our moms are doing well.  My MIL is in a nursing home and declining but still loves her cookies.  She is 84.  My Mom is 85 and still lives alone, drives, volunteers at the hospital and is very head strong.  She doesn't want anyone to think she is old.  We are thankful to still have our moms.  Also in this picture is my SIL.  She takes such good care of their mother.  She tries to go see her mother once a day at meal time to help feed her.  My SIL also volunteers at her church, the animal shelter, the Chamber of Commerce, and at the elementary school.  She also babysits for her two grandsons.  She recently retired from her job at Honda.  She took early retirement.  I think she has filled her time up and then some.  I had started this post awhile ago and never published it.  So today I am adding some words to it and publishing it .  Recently The Lucketts Store Blog had a giveaway for a centerpiece crown.  You were to leave a comment for someone that you thought was deserving of this crown.  The crown is beautiful by the way.  I wrote about my sister in law and about all that she does.  I even mentioned that she had stopped by to see my mother one day it was snowing to make sure that she was okay.  We live almost 2 hours away from where our mothers are.  We are so thankful for Mary Ann, my SIL.  And guess what.........she won the crown from Lucketts.  I am so excited to give it to her.  You can tell a person how much you appreciate them but hopefully this will be a reminder of our appreciation for all the she does.

How lucky you are to have a wonderful sister-in-law close by your mother-in-law. Today I have been researching assisted living facilities for my own parents who live more than 500 miles.

Your sister in law is a treasure. You are lucky to still have your mom and mother in law. My mother left this world three years ago and I still miss her. She was the glue that kept the family together. Every year was get together at her house and now it's not the same.

I'm glad that you thought of her and that she won the award.
Hugs,
JB

I mailed my hearts to you today, but I realized when I got home I forgot my $5.00. Will put it in the mail tomorrow. Thank you for this fun swap! Elizabeth

Hi Debby, You did a wonderful tribute to your moms. I think when they can stay active they are so much healthier. Beautiful about your sil and wonderful that she is close to help. Cherish every moment you can with them because you never know when they will be gone. Hope you are feeling good. Hugs and Prayers from Your Missouri Friend.

Hi Debby,
Thanks so much for your sweet comments on my blog today. It is very refreshing to know of others, whom have had to experience such an unpleasant situation. Life is still good, and hope springs eternal. Have a wonderful rest of the week.

thats so perfect that you won the crown for you sil! I still have both of my parents (who arent together) but both live in florida and I hardly ever see them. My MIL is only an hour away so I see here a few times a year. not as much as we should, but she is super healthy and gets around with no problem.
I dont like them all getting older though!
have a great day!

Dear Debby, A standing ovation for those that cheerfully serve others. How very sweet of you to honor your SIL. You Debby should take a bow too... I so envy you having your Moms, sigh...I miss mine everyday. Love to you all, Penny

That's so sweet that she won the crown! You are so lucky to have your SIL there for your MIL. It really matters when you have someone who can just pop into the nursing home unexpectedly to keep everyone on their toes. Did you get any snow? We didn't get anything here. Not that I'm disappointed or anything!

How very special this is to me because I love seniors and their families. As I think I've mentioned Debby, I am an activity director in a retirement/assisted living community. I LOVE WHAT I DO!

I had to smile at the list of gals participating in the swap, I have never met any of them...what fun!!! I am making mine and should be ready and on target!

Hi Debby, thanks for stopping by today. How wonderful that you nominated your SIL And she won the crown. :) I'm sure it was difficult to suffer two great losses so close together. It's great that your mom is so vivacious at 85. Have a wonderful rest of the weekend. Tammy
