Another year older

Yesterday was my birthday.  I have had alot of birthdays so it was just another day.  But a happy day......that's why the sunflower as they are my happy flowers.
I think about the numbers and just don't know where time goes.  But friends, birthdays are a good thing.  It sure beats the alternative.  Surviving cancer many years ago (no, not breast cancer) made me appreciate each year I celebrate. ( I love those commercials about cancer and birthdays. ) I always stop and listen.  My kind of cancer was rare (liposarcomas in my leg).  They aren't anything like lipomas.  I was misdiagnosed the first time I had surgery.  Then I had to have two more surgeries.  No chemo or radiation just very radical surgery.  But I have my leg and my hip and they work just fine.  I know that I was very lucky.  When I was first diagnosed the first thing I said was," But I want to see my grandchildren."  When I think back I wonder why I said that.  I should have said that I wanted to see my children graduate and get married and things like that.  But there I was, worried about not being a grandmother.  But now I get it.  I think I was born to be a grammy.  Seriously.  I got to speak to all of my children yesterday and my grandchildren.  Just love when they say "grammy" and that they love me.  Ohhhhhh, so glad I am here to hear their sweet voices.  And.......I am thankful for all this extra time I have had to spend with their parents, their Grampy, and all of their Grammy's friends. (That includes all of you).  ((((((HUGS)))))

I agree with every single thing you said. Just think of the people we have known that have never got to see another birthday and passed at a young age. We are blessed and we are blessed to be grandmas....there is NOTHING compares to it...except raising our own children...Hope your birthday was a special one! xo, Patti

this kinda hit home when you said I want to see my grandchildren. When my Mom was in hospice she said to me I can't die I need to see my grandkids grow up.

I am glad you had a happy birthday, Debby - you deserve it!

Happy Birthday Debby ! I'm a survivor too and while life has been tough since, (most not cancer related) I am thrilled to be alive and look forward to the milestones of life. You sure are a great Grandma, so glad all is well with you. Elaine

Happy Birthday, Debby! I tend to treat my birthday as just another day now, too. It's hard to do when it's Halloween! I would think that too ~ "but I want to see my grandchildren". I simple way of saying you want to be around a long time and I think you made your point! : )

I think all grandma's can relate to this post about being a grandma.
Nothing better is there than to hear those sweet words coming from our grandbabies.

Oh Debby, I love that you knew you were suppose to be a granny. I believe that about you as well. I have never seen anyone express such joy as you do about your wonderful little ones. They light you from inside. Wishing you a wonderful birthday! Elizabeth

Happy Belated Birthday Debby! I think you are mistaken about your birthday being another day. Any time love surrounds you should be special. Sounds like that happened in your life yesterday. I wish you many more years of good health and happniness.
