Santa, Swaps, Stress

Are you asking how all of these things can be in the same post.
I was asked by my husband not to stress out about Christmas as I guess he thinks I always do. He waits til the very last minute.....say a couple of days before Christmas. This has been known to bite him in the bum. Say the big ice storm a few years ago when all the stores were closed Dec. 23 and 24 and we ended up in a hotel for 6 days. But I have to confess.......I do STRESS. Our family keeps growing and I love to give.
Not expensive useless things just something. I would LOVE to hear how those of you with LARGE families and small budgets manage at this time of the year. I would LOVE to hear your gift ideas. I always stumble on the GUYS on my list. When money is short, I refuse to give things that aren't needed or wanted.( We also have two grandbabies that are born in December and my husbands' b.d. as well). So. please share how you do your holidays with me.
Okay the swaps........today......I really mean it this time......I will be mailing a tag swap to E., an ornament swap to Cindy (6 ornaments), another ornament swap organized by Carrie (another 6 ornaments), two Christmas box swaps to Genie and to Deb. I have lost sleep over what to do for those ornaments. I love finding new ideas to remake myself. Those ideas didn't come. I chose something simple to do......but I like what I did. They have to get mailed TODAY so that I can see my dining room and kitchen table and counters as Thanksgiving dinner will be here on Sunday. STRESS if I don't get my act together. Okay, hope I didn't stress you out. I will be fine, my friends........ Let the season begin.......and let me remember the REASON FOR THE SEASON.

Wow, it sounds like you're really organized! Lots of swaps! I'm just now busy thinking about the ornament for Cindy's swap - have to get it together in my mind first before starting :)
Gifts are hard, aren't they? I was raised on "handmade is best", but not everyone agrees. Sometimes a gift for the whole family works, but the little kids like to open packages.
Good Luck and remember you're not alone in the stress!

Debby, I am stressed reading your post! EAK! What do we get ourselves into! I don't have Genie's address, I'm sorry to say. Does she have a flickr account to leave her a message or perhaps the host can post a message on her blog? Thank you again so much for joining my swap! Elizabeth

I've already got myself stressed to the point I'm in a Bah Humbug mood. It's got to be the weather!!! Please take pictures of the ornaments! I would love to see some ideas. As if I need another project, ha-ha!

Me too I got all anxious reading this Debby!!
You were saying a few years ago you ended up in a hotel due to an ice storm? This would never happen here, no hotels to go to. Alaska is a take care of yourself place or die. A wood stove is always a good back up plan. Lots of people here live w/o power and toilets anyway.
I am hoping to be in our new rooms by Christmas and book club is coming on the 19th but if we're not completely done these people will not care at all and we'll just go with what we have done. I'm busy working on felt things here. Nan

Hi Debby,
Take a DEEP breath...for Christmas we do the dice game exchange...one gift that you would like to receive, wrapped and put under the tree with no name. Everyone does this and then you shake the dice and a "double" get to take a present. Do this until everyone has a gift...one per person. Unwrap and set the timer for a few minutes. Shake dice again, doubles takes a gift from another one, (exchange really)...when the timer goes off, that's the gift you get. If that doesn't make since..email me :) I'll be working on your box Saturday and hope to get it in the mail before the end of the month :)
We also have a $25 limit on the gift. Nice white elephant gifts could also be exchanged.
Deb :)

Hi Debby! I miss you!!

Sounds like you have your hands full this Christmas. :) Hopefully it will be just a little stress so it doesn't get in the way of you enjoying your holidays.

I'm not sure if you ever saw this post but I mentioned how I took tins one year for Christmas and made a list of everything I liked about each family member and paired it with some cookies for a gift. Everyone seemed to like it as it made them realize all of the wonderful things I see in them. It's was easy to do, cost little money and seemed to be well received even from the guys. Just a thought. :)
