When it looks like this, why not.

When it looks like this why not start getting ready for Christmas.  Some say it's tradition, some say it's rushing time, some say that it isn't giving the love to Thanksgiving.
Well my answers to those are....................
1.  Time rushes by on it's own.  We have no control over that.  It's going to happen .
2.  Who set this tradition.  Our parents and then their parents before them.  Canada has their Thanksgiving way before ours, leaving this time for Christmas.  Who are we honoring, our fore fathers?  Time has changed a lot since the first Thanksgiving.
3.  Can't we be thankful for our forefathers and God at the same time.
I can't remember if I ever decorated before Thanksgiving.  I usually wait til around the first of December.  Then I find myself stressing about the decorating, getting cards ready to mail,  Christmas shopping/baking, and all of that.
I remember once having Thanksgiving at my son's.  It was all Christmasy and it was so nice.  So, don't hate me but I have taken down the Fall and started to put up Christmas.  Hubby asked for it to be simple and not all out.  I had the same thought.  So I have decided that it will be a winter forest like theme.  Only those things will come out.  I will bring some of my Santas out closer to Christmas.
So I am showing you a little of Thanksgiving.
I am having an Origami Owl Open House this week-end .  My friend is going to bring her Jamberry items as well.  That may have or may not have been a decorating influence.
I will be gone Christmas as well.  I am going to Colorado to be with my Colorado kids.  Hubby will come for a couple of days.
Also, having the house on the market who knows what will happen.  I still have no word about the last two showings.  Believe me these people have to be serious to consider moving right now.
Okay, have I convinced you that it is okay.  The Thanksgiving police won't come after you.  If they do call me.......1-800-Bah-Humbug

Okay some post notes:
I don't like it when the stores decorate for Christmas til after Halloween.
I will not shop on Thanksgiving or Black Friday.  I usually don't hit the stores at all after Thanksgiving.  But get this......our church, The Church in the Mall, has sign ups for helping our neighborhood.......the neighborhood is the mall workers.  They start Thanksgiving late evening and go til morning with drinks and treats for the workers.  So, I will donate food but not going to be one that goes around with the food.
Toodles, off to take back the sleep study equipment.  It's supposed to snow again today.

Debby, My daughters and I used to do that black Friday shopping. No more. They have the electronics they need and that is the really true bargain during that time. I do not miss all those crowds. they are bigger and ruder than many years ago. Hope you don't get as much snow as Buffalo area. Wow. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

Hi Debby, Decorate or don't, do it now or do it later . . it's all a matter of opinion and time. My husband loves Christmas so he would be for starting early and ending late. I say whatever makes you happy. It's your home, and it's your family:) Happy Thanksgiving.
Your blogging sister, Connie
P.S. I cannot wait to see what you do with a winter woodland theme, it sounds beautiful.

I totally agree with you!! I am taking fall down today and will begin putting Christmas out. It is just too much decorating not to appreciate it longer than a couple of weeks!!
Great idea about the Winter Forest theme!
Love Colorado and hope you take pics!!

I put up our tree the day after Thanksgiving...always have done it.
All our family share Thanksgiving dinner with us and I love having a bit of fallish decos out...Then,they all come back for our traditional Christmas Eve Stocking Party and dinner and I like having all the "fall" put away for the year and having Christmas pretties all around...

I won't start until after Thanksgiving this year because it will be here. Wish I had gotten my outside stuff up before it got so cold and snowy/miserable though. You could not pay me to shop on Black Friday! lol My kids love it though.
I will be anxious to see if the couple comes through with an offer. xo Diana

Debby - you are so cute and funny! I am doing something different this year. I already have one tree up and decorated. I put up two big trees. I just didn't want to rush and to it the first week of Dec, like past years. I really like this. I plan on having all my decorations up by the end of the month. Don't care if anyone likes it or not - it will make me happy!

Take care and stay warm!
warm hugs from Texas!

Wow ! If it looked like that here I might just be inclined to decorate. I haven't put up a tree in a few years. No reason just have had the urge. But I do like Christmas. It will be interesting to see what we do tha year. I'm for it but never this early. Stay warm and be safe!

With all that new snow, it beginning to look like Christmas. I'm not yet in the Christmas mood but when it hits, I'll be decorating and decorating and singing Christmas carols but usually not too early.

Stay warm and safe.

Now, I am not one to decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving, but that's just me. If you want to do that then there is no law against it! LOL! Since I don't have small children (who believe in Santa) any more and don't yet have grandchildren, I don't feel so compelled to go over the top in decorating. That frees up a lot of my time. I quit sending out Christmas cards years ago too. I only send them to people I won't actually see over the holidays. My youngest is in middle school so there aren't any more class parties and teacher gifts to fool with either. Gosh, kind of boring huh? Your owl origami party sounds fun. Owl's are all the rage now. Hope you don't have to go outside in the snow. Stay inside where it's warm. Our weather has been warming up every day finally. We southerners don't know how to act pulling our coats out of the closet this early!

Everyone does what's right for them and who is to say differently? There certainly aren't any rules when it comes to family traditions. Though I gotta say, Christmas in October is a little much. I kinda like the idea of monthly themes. I don't get caught up in all the craziness of holidays though. Where are your kids in CO?

Best wishes,
Tammy

I need to feel a chill, have some rain from fall the sky to create a some dampness in the air, and if the clouds decide to fill the sky, then, great, since, after 8 months of straight, scorching sun and heat, these cooler, wintry days are most welcoming and fresh. Then, the Christmas spirit starts to spread among the land!
