On my walls

Little by little things are going on the walls.  This group looks much better in person.  I think since the bottom picture blends into the wall in the picture.  I have no rhyme or reason to how I decorate.  Somehow I ended up with mostly canvases on the walls, so far.  Yes, there is a sheet on the sofa because of the dogs.  Those are new doll books I got at the last auction. There is a lot going on in our one big living space.  The kitchen, the dining room and living room are all one room.  And there are no halls, just lots of doors.  Then I have the unusual space above one wall clear at the top.  And I also have space above the kitchen cupboards.
The high space I decided to just use my baskets .  I know that is old school but I think they work here.  I like the sign and the aqua lantern for a little of color . I want that area to blend in and not stick out.

The space above the cabinets goes from high to low.  This is what is up there now after Christmas.  The bike that came with the doll, a handmade wooden bowl, some wooden spools, stars that hold candles and a couple of cute girls.   Again, there is a lot going on in one room so trying to keep things simple.  It makes it hard when your house was staged so long and the walls were so bare.  All this time I couldn't wait to put my things back up and now I keep holding back.  So far almost everything you see is new or it wasn't on the walls before.  Most of the canvases I got with special deals or gifts.
The other side of the cabinets is not very high.  and is a dark area so I used wooden spools , a wooden bowl and an angel.

My Littlest Bears finally are out of the boxes in their new home.
I am so excited to finally put this shelf on the wall.  I have had it for a couple of years and it never got put up.  Hubby saw it and was worried it wasn't up well.  I bumped into it today and it stayed in place.  This will change as I find my other things but I am loving it so far.I ordered this shelf from Décor Deals.......where they have a deal each day.  I saw it and knew I had to have it.  It is only about 2 feet long but I love the distressed paint.  For now my little pitcher collection is there.  Also a little frame I bought at Country Living Fair at the Earth Angels tent.  It was on sale and the only thing I could afford there.

I am sure some of you are preparing for the big storm.  It is supposed to last 36 hours.  We are on the cusp of getting the snow.  We probably will only see 2 - 4 inches if the map stays were it is now.
My feet are getting better.  One area is tender but not bad.  I haven't been out of the house very much so I think not wearing shoes has helped.
Well, I guess that's it for now.  Stay safe and warm my friends.

I love decorating and moving things around.. but starting with an empty canvas (bare rooms.. as in when you just moved in) is a big job! I watch property brothers and some of those other shows and they always make everything come together so beautifully! I often wonder what they would think of all my "junk" lol!
have a great day my friend

For me decorating kind of evolve over a long time. I started out pretty bare and when I find something I like I first think of how it will look in a particular place. I don't decorate to suite others but to suit my own personal taste. Decorating an open plan can be rather challenging as I have found out so I make use of a lot of green plants.

I once had an interior decorator from a paint and wallpaper store come in my house for consultation on choice of paint color for my two story house with open concept and I told her that I wanted to put in two windows on one wall in the dining area because it was so dark when it wasn't sunny and she told me "Absolutely no, it will unbalance everything" But going on my gut feeling that I needed more sunlight to make me happy, I got the two windows put in anyway and what a wonderful difference it made. I even made a blog post about it. Do what makes you happy is my answer to decorating your home. It should reflect your personality. Have fun decorating Debby

JB

I can't live with bare walls. Where there's space, something's going up. Everyone says it's like I live in a museum. Here, some people don't put a lot of stuff because of the dust. But I want to have a cozy space. Don't much care about what's in or out. I just put what I like. So you just do what you want with what you've got and have fun with it. :)

I'm not a big fan of bare walls either. It's nice that you are getting your treasures up on display. Glad to hear that your feet are feeling better now. We only got a few inches of snow so far. I think the storm has headed out over the ocean now. It will be daylight here soon and I think I'm going to try to catch a nap. You have a wonderful day, hugs, Edna B.

It took me a long time to figure where I wanted everything on the walls in this house and it's still evolving. You'll get it all where you want it soon :)

I hope your foot feels better soon!

It is so much fun to decorate a new place. And, just because you place an item doesn't mean it has to stay there forever! Enjoy making your house a home! Blessings, Cindy

It looks like you are getting settled in and putting out your favorites. It is going to be so cute when you finish. I have a man on a bicycle just like yours. Mine is some sort of metal and I love it.

Thank you for visiting me today. It's always nice to get to know the people who are reading your blog isn't it? I love your decorating style. We have the same thing with our house, kitchen dining room and living room are all one big room. I love the openness but sometimes it's hard to decorate. I look forward to reading some of the back posts of your blog. Good luck tomorrow.
Blessings, Betsy

Decorating your place shouldn't be rushed because it takes awhile to know what you will like and where. We are still trying to figure out where to place some of our photos and other items and we've lived in our apt over a year!
