Well this has been fun

Just to let you know, we are okay here. We had power restored yesterday. 3 days of terrible heat, no A/C and no water. But we are lucky. My son is still out of power and all the nearby towns.....just shut down. They are saying the 8th of July. We are on rural electric and that must have helped. I was ready to pack up and leave with the dogs in tow. Hubby work is open but that is 45 minutes away.
These storms were unreal. There was no warning. The sky was dark in the distance but not where the winds were. They are saying straight line winds with a bow effect. I was actually out of town checking on the moms. I ran across 4 lanes of road in the wind. Seriously thought I was in a tornado. Dust hitting my body and stinging. Signs flying and trees falling. My mom was in the car and had no clue. We drove to an area where there weren't trees. Surprised my car didn't end up like my neighbors. (This is my next door neighbor's car)
We have trees all over that were uprooted. Main streets still shut down with trees and wires still in the road. We had to drive out of town to get water and there still was no ice. Yesterday I had to drive 45 minutes for ice and then got home and had power.
We are lucky. The other picture is our yard. But we didn't have any damage. Lots of rotten food.
Even the cell phones were not working. Towers were down. I stayed at my Mom's the first night trying to check in on my husband's mom. (The moms live 2 hours away) The day after the storm, I found her seriously ill and not responding. She is in an apartment in a nursing home. I found a nurse and the squad was called. She is in the hospital still with renal failure and receiving blood transfusions. But she is stable.
But home I am, and glad to be cool. I don't like the heat and never had. I can only take so much heat. Yesterday was my breaking point and the power came on.....thank the Lord. It almost makes you feel guilty when others don't have it. I have invited anyone that wants to come over to do so.
So today I hope to stay put and hope that my headaches go away. They aren't too bad, just from all the heat, I'm sure. So thankful . It is just so sad when things like this happen and out of no where. So many stories.
My son and his family are in Ohio, here fromColorado, and we are hoping they can come sometime this week-end. My son was with me when I found my MIL in such bad shape. That helped alot. Then I stayed til Hubby could get to the hospital and his sister returning from the beach. So glad that I was there to get her to the hospital.
Okay rambling here.
Hope you are all okay. I know this was widespread. Going to try to catch up on some reading here today. Many ((((((HUGS)))))

My goodness, what a terrible time there! I'd never heard of that 'derecho' or whatever they call it - hurricane - before! At least we have some warning time with the hurricanes down here. It sounds like this was all over the midwest and DC, Maryland, etc.- and just came out of nowhere. That tree on the car picture is scary!
Glad you have power now, Debby, and so sorry so many still do not, especially with the high temps. I know you must be sooooo thankful you got to your mother-in-law in time to get her to the hospital and treatment!!! What a blessing, even though so stressful for you!
Take care! Hope the cleanup goes well and everyone gets their power back on really soon!

Oh Debby, we had a trying day here at the farm but it wasn't storm related. Just things after another breaking down but they all got fixed.

So sorry about all the misery this storm has caused you and so many but I am sure glad that you are all OK and that you were thinking of your moms and checked up on them and that you got your mother in-law to the hospital in time.

I feel sorry for your neighbours' property that got damaged. Thank goodness no lives were lost because of the storm.

I just can't take the heat well either but I'm better than last year as far as heat is concerned. It's nice to have a cool basement on hot days especially when the air conditioner isn't working.

A prayer for those who are suffering property damage and heat without A/C.

Hugs. JB

So good to hear you are fine, but what a horrid experience that must have been and then finding your poor MIL. So many with sad reports, a very strange thing indeed.

Sweet hugs for you! xxoo

What is going on with this CRAZY world right now and all this weather/fire stuff??? It's really scary! I'm happy to hear that you and your family are ok...though it sounds like your MIL could use some prayers!
Will be hoping she feels better real soon,
Erica :)

Very frightening to have had no warning. Glad you are all safe, Debby. I hope your MIL feels better soon.

I too cannot handle the heat, which is one of the reasons we are living in the Colorado high country - summer temps are in the mid-80s here. The monsoon rains started this week, which should help put out the wildfires.

Stay safe.

Hugs,
Zuzu

Oh my goodness Debby! I had no idea that you were involved in that terrible storm that has been all over the news. I am so sorry to hear of all the devestation around you. That must have been so scary! I hate to see all of that damage and to hear about how ill your MIL is during this. Being without power is a VERY difficult thing. We've all become so used to it and dependent upon it. Glad that you're experiencing some relief now. Hope things get back to normal soon for you and you start feeling better too.

Oh my! How grateful we all are that you are okay.

Take it easy cutting up the downed trees, etc. There's no need to rush. . . . . .

In other words, take care of yourself!

Oh Debby what a mess. Really strange weather in the lower 48 this summer. We just have the cool which is quite nice as the tourists are enjoying it I hear.
I wonder why they were not watching your mother in law a bit better for goodness sakes!
I hope thing go better for you. Maybe you need to store up some food and water these days with all the strange weather phenomenon going on. Maybe get a generator. We do this in Alaska as there are few services here to help a person the locals all have to pitch in and do it themselves. Even if you call 911 here the average time for a response is 20 minutes!

I'm glad to hear you and yours are safe and sound after the storm. I'll keep my fingers crossed for quick insurance settlements, restored power, restocked freezers and a sense of humor!

Oh how horrible! We had to live with no electricity for over a week in the heat of summer a few years ago. Not something I ever want to repeat!
